Background:

Dr. Carvalho completed his PhD at the University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) with a focus on Dental Materials and Oral Biology Research. His research program at UBC currently studies the adhesion of different dental materials to dental structures, with a focus on tuning the material-structure interfacial properties. Most recently, his lab has successfully developed base materials from sustainable sources (CNC, Chitin) to serve as additives to dental materials manufacturing and other applications in health and industry.  A key focus of his teaching is on how dental materials knowledge can help support clinical decisions in direct and indirect restorative procedures.
