Mark MacLachlan PhD

Professor

Chemistry, Faculty of Science

Background:

Dr. MacLachlan received his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Toronto with a focus on inorganic materials. He then pursued a post-doc in organic materials chemistry at MIT, before joining UBC in 2001. His research program at UBC primarily involves the development of new organic and inorganic molecules and materials towards various applications, such as electronics, photonics, and catalysis. A key goal of his research is to develop new synthetic and sustainable strategies towards development of functional materials with hierarchical order, while gaining improved understanding of the foundations of supramolecular assembly and structural growth. Dr. MacLachlan holds the Canada Research Chair in Supramolecular Materials and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2014.
