Maria Luísa Leite DDS, MSc, PhD
Assistant Professor in Operative Dentistry & Dental Materials, College of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan
Background:
Dr. Leite received her PhD in Oral Rehabilitation from the São Paulo State University Julio de Mesquita Filho with a focus on tissue engineering strategies for pulp and dentin regeneration. Upon joining the Manso Lab in 2021 as a postdoctoral research fellow, she had contributed her clinical research expertise to the development of photosensitizer-loaded materials for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. Dr. Leite has been the recipient of several awards, including the Bowen Early Career Investigator Award (Academy of Dental Materials).
Currently, in her tenure-track faculty position, she aims to explore innovative strategies in her research program to treat disorders and diseases related to craniofacial, oral, and dental tissues, applying biomaterials engineering, tissue regeneration, drug delivery, and biomodulation concepts.
Research Interests:
- Tissue engineering models for Dentistry and Medicine.
- Development of bioactive and biocompatible dental biomaterials.
- Evaluation of cytotoxicity and antimicrobial, mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of novel dental materials.
- Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation approaches in oral health.
